The Singapore government offers many opportunities that make it easier for foreign students to live their dream of studying in prestigious Singapore universities. The Ministry of Education (MOE) for instance offers scholarships and tuition grants to international students who wish to pursue higher education in Singapore. Tuition grants and scholarships by the MOE are estimated to run to the tune of S$210 million, and are offered on a yearly basis. But that's not all.

There are a number of other scholarships that foreign students wishing to study in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Singapore can apply for. Here is a lowdown of some scholarships that Indian students wanting to fund their education in Singapore can explore.

SIA Youth Scholarship

The SIA Youth scholarship is offered by the MOE to Indian students desirous of joining specific junior colleges in the country. Candidates have to qualify a test and an interview, Qualifying students are covered for two years following which the student is presented with a Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education. 'Advanced' (GCE 'A')

What makes you eligible?

The SIA scholarship is open only to Indian nationals. Applicants are required to have finished their tenth standard from a recognized board in India, with a minimum average of 85% and English as their first language.

What does the scholarship bring to the table?

The scholarship package comes with an annual allowance amounting to S$2400. Apart from hostel accommodation, the scholarship provides students with subsidized medical services and accident insurance coverage. Students awarded the scholarship are entitled to a return economy class air ticket as well and granted a settling-in allowance of S$500 once.

Nanyang Scholarship

The scholarship offered by Nanyang Technological University is based purely on merit. University freshmen with exemplary academic achievements stand a good chance of earning the scholarship. The Singapore Millennium Scholarships

Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA)

SINGA is the outcome of an initiative taken by a group of premium educational institutions in Singapore. These include the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), A*STAR, Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), and National University of Singapore (NUS). The SINGA award provides students full access to a PhD program, at any of the participating institutes.

Eligibility criterion

The scholarship is open exclusively to international students who wish to conduct research in the fields of Physical sciences and Engineering and Biomedical sciences.

Scholarship package includes

  • A fixed stipend of S$24,000 each month. This amount is increased to S$30,000 for candidates who qualify the exam consecutively, for 4 years
  • Airfare allowance
  • One time relocation payment

Applications to the scholarship opens twice a year - August and January. Candidates can send in their application immediately after the previous intake until January 1 and June 1 every year.

NGS scholarship- National University of Singapore

The National University of Singapore provides scholarship opportunity to PhD aspirants who harbor a special zest for innovation.

Eligibility Criteria :

  • Graduate with 2nd upper honors
  • GRE and TOEFL scores are also taken into consideration

What does the package include?

  • Monthly stipend of S$32,000 for up to 4 years of PhD studies
  • Selected candidates are also eligible for special allowances to acquire a computer and study material
  • Travel allowances for attending conferences

To be considered for the January intake, would-be candidates need to put in their applications before May of the prior year.

NUS MBA fellowship

This is one of the premium MBA scholarship programs in Singapore. The National University of Singapore offers more than S$ 1 million in scholarships, majority of which are awarded purely on the basis of merit. Scholarship is open to both domestic as well as international students.

The NUS MBA Study award is on offer for students of all nationalities. Excellent academic background and a keen interest in leadership based activities are characters that are taken into consideration to determine merit for these scholarships.

Nanyang Fellows MBA Scholarships

The prestigious Nanyang Technological University provides scholarships for international students who wish to join for the premium MBA program at the university. The scholarship is designed specifically for mid level executives on a partial scholarship basis and it is awarded based on a competitive selection process.

  • No other scholarship or fellowship can be pursued while applying for this fellowship

University Study Award- SMU University

The scholarship is formed from anonymous contributions from the faculty, staff of Singapore Management University. This is an undergraduate scholarship open to deserving candidates.

  • Consistent excellence in academics
  • Genuinely in need of financial assistance
